antitrustitalia Competition Lunch Talk with Daniele Calisti on “Mergers in Consolidated Markets and EU Competitiveness: the fewer the merrier?”
antitrustitalia hosted a Competition Lunch Talk, on Wednesday 10 July 2024 from 12:15 to 14:00 at the auditorium of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition (DG COMP) in Brussels, Place Madou 1, 1210 Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (Metro Madou).
As usual, we had a delicious Italian lunch followed by a lively discussion with our guest speaker, Daniele Calisti (DG Comp), who gave a presentation on “Mergers in Consolidated Markets and EU Competitiveness: the fewer the merrier?”.
Recently, the European Commission examined a number of mergers in concentrated markets, with differing results. Daniele Calisti talked on the key parameters for assessing mergers in basic industries and described the CK Telecoms Judgment, as well as its policy implications.
Daniele Calisti is the Head of Unit E4, Mergers in Basic industries, Manufacturing and Agriculture at DG COMP. In this capacity, he led many high profile investigations into EU and global acquisitions. Prior to mergers, he worked on policy initiatives at the Directorate General for Competition, which he joined in 2008. He graduated at LUISS University in Rome, holds a PhD from University of Rome La Sapienza, and an LLM from King’s college London.
We would like to renew our thanks to our speakers, antitrustitalia members and all attendees.
See you soon at our next event!
