antitrustitalia Competition Lunch Talk with Alessio Aresu and Dominik Erharter on “Antitrust enforcement in labour markets”
Dear antitrustitalia Friend,
We are pleased to invite you to our next Competition Lunch Talk “Antitrust enforcement in labour markets: protecting competition for talent” with Alessio Aresu and Dominik Erharter as guest speakers.
The event will take place on Monday 4 March 2024 from 12:15 to 14:00 in Brussels at the auditorium of the European Commission Directorate General for Competition (DG COMP) in Place Madou 1.
Companies do not only compete for sales and customers, they also compete for talent. Unfettered competition for workers ensures higher labour mobility and competitive wages. It has an impact on productivity, quality and variety of products and innovation. Wage-fixing and no-poaching agreements significantly damage competition. What can we expect from enforcement in the near future? What can we learn from the economic analysis about the current situation?
Alessio Aresu, DG Comp – Cartels Directorate , and Dominik Erharter, DG Comp – Chief Economist Team, will discuss these and other questions during our talk and provide insight into what to expect in the coming months.
Alessio Aresu is an expert in antitrust law and economics, including in digital and high-technology sectors, covering cartel investigations, abuse of dominance and merger control. He is an Italian qualified lawyer and a permanent official at the European Commission, DG Comp, which he joined in 2021. He has more than 15 years of experience in antitrust matters developed in Brussels and Bruges. Prior to joining the Commission he was an associate general counsel of a big tech and a private practitioner at top US law firms in Brussels. He also was a teaching assistant for the LL.M. in European Law and Economic Analysis of the College of Europe of which he is also an alumnus. He graduated in law from Bocconi University.
Dominik Erharter is an economist within the Chief Economist Team since 2021. Previously, he worked as an economist at the Austrian Federal Competition Authority and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy.
The lunch will be provided at 12:15, the presentation will begin at 13:00 and will close at 14:00. DG COMP auditorium is at DG COMP premises in Brussels, Place Madou 1, 1210 Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (Metro Madou).
